Just a small update. I have begun to receive information, questions and requests from modellers in other countries. I recommend Google Translate, it is so useful to someone like myself who cannot speak one word of a foreign language.
Also Oliver Daniel was good enough to send some pics of Imara that I have put on the Resources page. Does anyone know anything about this Imara or who the builder was?
While on the subject of Resources I would absolutely love to hear from anyone who knew anything about the real Imara or Perseverance. Also any photographs would be fantastic. Was a relation of yours a crew member? Please get in touch if you have any information whatsoever.

Martin,
looking forward to further reports on building.
I’m having a problem unziping any of your files on in the resources tab, just get unknown compression method when Windoz XP extraction is used. Any ideas what wrong?
Any chance you could jurt put them in PDF?

Hi Mark, sorry about the problem with the zip files. Windows XP will only open .zip files created at “normal” compression settings. I forgot and zipped them at highest compression. I have replaced the files on this site with the compatible versions. Please try downloading them again and let me know if you experience further problems. I hope you enjoy my blog and please feel free to comment. I will be updating the blog soon as I am now feeling a lot better and am able to make more progress.
Martin.

Hi Mark, I am glad that the files are ok now. I must try to remember to only compress in “Normal” mode with Winzip.
I hope you get an Imara for Christmas, you will not be disappointed.
Which measurements would be most useful, I am thinking that you are referring to the propshaft and ‘A’ frames.
Martin.

** Update **
Mark replied with this email (which due to an oversight) I have only just noticed. Apologies for the delay Mark, but I will take on board what you have requested.
Regards, Martin.

Any measurements you think would be helpful as you go along in the build…just to stop us followers on having to re invent the wheel again.
Also things like stock/part numbers and where you get the things that are not in the kit, like props etc will also of great help.

Hi Martin
A Happy New Year to you and yours and I trust that 2009 will be a better one for you.
Like yourself I’m building an Imara and I’ve been following your website with interest.Up to now I’ve installed everything in the hull and sealed the deck at which point I’ve reached the point of no return!!
I’ve tested it on my local pond and was very disappointed with the turning circle or lack of it, so I put a mixer in and things are much improved, in fact they’re spot on.
All the white metal bits look rather daunting but there are so many excellent pics of Imara’s on the various websites that finding a home for them all shouldn’t be a problem.
Kind regards and I wish you well.

Hi Brian, a happy New Year to you too
I am amazed that anyone is still bothering to come here as I have made so little progress. However, as I explained in my post on the 22nd December, that is going to change. Do you have any pictures of your Imara build, or any details you would care to share with this site?
I have a question for you that may help me out. Do you have the measurements for the Fore and Aft walls of the Aft Store from the Stern?
I am thinking that my propshaft lubrication tubes can be accessed from here but cannot be sure of the measurements.
Regards, Martin.

Hi Martin
I visit your site every day in the hope that I can glean some more information for my Imara build, so you are far from being forgotten!
I can post you some pics of the build but you’d better explain how I can post them.
Sending pics by conventional e-mail is not a problem but sending them to your site needs explaining to a non technical wally like myself.
When you ask for the measurements of the fore and aft walls of the aft store from the stern are you referring to the smaller of the two GRP mouldings that sit on the deck?
I’ve had to perform surgery to the two deck halves to make them fit inside the hull, which alters the configuration by about 5mm so my measurements may not coincide with your deck fitting.
I believe this is a fault common to all the Imara kits so when I send the measurements I’m sure you’ll bear this in mind.
If you’d like to send me your comments Martin we can take it from there.
Kind regards
Brian

Hi Brian, you are really too kind To post some pics just reply to this email I sent and I will post them for you. I will figure out how to get the site to do it at some point. As for the Aft Store, yes it is the smaller moulding to the rear of the main superstructure. The measurements do not need to be exact as there will be a bit of leeway.

Hi Martin
I have been visiting your site regularly to see how you are getting along. I have just finished my “Imara” renamed “Ishbel” registered in Blyth.
I would recommend that you fit a mixer when you come to wire up, I used the same motors as you and a P94 dual esc/mixer from action electronics and it is the dogs do da`s.

Hi Mark, I am so pleased that your Ishbel is finished. Do you have any pics that I could share with the world?

Hi nice to find few other ‘nutters’ who took on the Imara build.
I bought my ‘project’ just over three years ago (almost 4!!) on a trip back to Blighty, I live in france, anyway after much heart ache and sweat I have got the beast tamed and about three quarters maybe more, finished.
I had several problems with the hull decking some of the white metal features shaping the super structure etc etc . I made up things, as you do thru making this craft. I was not impressed with the decking as it looks tat to put it bluntly so I have made planking and re hashed the decking so it almost looks the part.
I am at the moment fighting with the steam winch to the extent I may seek out an alternative. Again the white metal ‘bits’ supplied are krapp and after a lot of work I nearly achieved succes only to manage snapping a lump of the frame - grrrrr. The ships boats are not what was originally fitted so again after fighting with the mouldings I managed to get two boat looking objects which again will be ’self’ styled.
I have to admit this model has kept me busy and I have enjoyed many hours putting together ideas by using my engineering and inventive skills getting something that might look like the original, I hope to have ‘the beast in the water this summer, if I can source a pair of electric motors.
A couple of questions.
I don’t want to use the props supplied so what size is a suitable replacement and has anyone got/found a replacement steam winch for the anchor winch?
bon chance Imara nutters!!

Hi Fred, it is good to hear from yet another Imara nutter
As to the props I used two 75mm four bladed propellers. I ordered them from Westbourne Models and I am really pleased with them. Just make sure you specify 4ba thread if you are using the supplied shafts. Please keep me upto speed with your build and let me have some photos for us all to admire.
